How Do I Start Using A New Theme?

Once a theme is installed all you must do is select the theme you would like to use from your desktop's appearance settings application.

1.) Changing GTK Themes


Changing The GTK Theme On Cinnamon

1.) Step 1 Open your main menu on the bottom left of your screen.

2.) Locate and start "System Settings" It's a gray gear Icon. in your start/main menu.

3.) Click On The Themes Icon
 

4.) Click On The Other Settings Tab.

5.) Select Desired Version Of GTK Theme From Themes Popout Box. 




Changing The GTK Theme On Gnome

Before you start. Make sure you have the Gnome Tweak application installed.

Visit the Gnome Software or Ubuntu Software Center Application and search for the Gnome Tweak Tool application and install it.

Or install by using one of these commands:
sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool  (On Ubuntu & Debian)
sudo dnf install gnome-tweak-tool  (On RedHat, CentOS & Fedora)
sudo zypper in gnome-tweak-tool  (On OpenSUSE)
yaourt gnome-tweak-tool  (On Arch)


1.) Step 1,  Click activities on the top left of your screen. Then click applications.
Or simply press the "Super Key". Also known as The Windows(TM) Logo Key.

If you are using Gnome On Ubuntu Click the 3 by 3 App Grid Icon on the bottom left of your screen. 

2.) Navigate to the "Settings" or "System Tools" application category in the icon
grid or scroll down until you see Gnome Tweak.

You can also simply just type "Gnome Tweak Tool" in the search box and launch the application.

3.) Once the "Gnome Tweak Tool" application is open Select the "Appearance" tab from the list of tabs on the left.

4.) Now simply select your desired Theme from the GTK Theme drop down menu.


Changing The GTK Theme On The Unity Desktop (Ubuntu 17.10 newer use the Gnome instructions above. Not Unity)

Before you start. Make sure you have the Unity Tweak application installed.

Visit the Ubuntu Software Center Application or Synaptic and search for the Unity Tweak Tool application and install it.

Or install by using this command:
sudo apt-get install unity-tweak-tool  (On Ubuntu & Debian)


1.) Step 1, Open your application menu by Clicking the Ubuntu Logo or pressing the "Super Key" eg. The Windows(TM) Logo Key.

2.) Locate and start the "unity-tweak-tool"  in your menu.
You can also search for it in the search bar.

3.) Once the "Unity Tweak Tool" application is open...
Select the "Theme" option from the grid.

4.) Now simply select your desired Theme from the GTK Theme from the list of themes. (Note: To can scroll up and down on this menu.)



Changing The GTK Theme On MATE

Simply select your desired GTK Theme and Window Border In your Desktops Theme Manager:

1.) Step 1, Right click on the desktop

2.) Select change background

3.) Click on the "Themes tab"

4.) Click customize.

5.) Select your desired theme from the list In the: "Controls" & "Window Border" tabs.


(!) Remember to select the Theme you want from each of these tabs noted.
(*) An alternate way to get to this dialog is to goto your menu.
System -> Preferences -> Appearance , Then continue from step 3.. (above.)



Changing The GTK Theme On XFCE

1.) Step 1, Click On The "XFCE Menu".  (Should be On the far left of either the top or bottom of your desktop.)

2.) Click on the "Settings Menu"  then --> "XFCE Settings Manager"

3.) Now click the "Appearance" category.

4.) Now select your desired theme from the List, In the "Style" tab.

5.) Now Go back by clicking the  "<-- Overview" (Back Button)  And select the "Window Manager" category

6.) Now select your desired theme from the List!, In the "Style" tab of the "Window Manager" category.

(!) In case XFCE Settings Manager is not Installed. 
You can also get to the same locations above by Clicking:

 "XFCE Menu --> Settings Menu" --> "Appearance"      (then See Step 4)

 "XFCE Menu --> Settings Menu" --> "Window Manager"  (then See Step 6)



Changing The GTK Theme On LXDE (GTK)

1.) Step 1, Click on the Application Menu (The Circular Icon in the Taskbar/Panel in far left of your screen.)

2.) Select the "Preferences Menu", then --> "Customize Look and Feel".

3.) Now select your desired theme from the list In the: "Widget" tab and click apply.

Lastly! To Select your Window Borders on LXDE.

4.) Select the "Preferences Menu", then --> "Openbox Configuration Manager" menu item.

5.) Now select your desired theme from the list in the "Openbox Configuration Manager" themes tab.

 
Changing The GTK Theme On OpenBox

Openbox does not have a official GUI fronted to switch GTK Themes and Icons. However most openbox desktops distributions often include the lxappearance utility from LXDE. If you don't have this utility you can and should install it via your package manager. Just search for "lxappearance".

1.) Step 1, Right click on your Openbox desktop and Find the "lxappearance" Application in your openbox menu. Or Open a terminal or run command window and type: lxappearance (and press enter)

2.) Now select your desired theme from the list In the: "Widget" Tab and click apply.

3.) Now Open your Openbox menu by right clicking and find the obconf (Openbox Configuration Manager) Application.

4.) Now select your desired theme from the list In The "Openbox Configuration Manager" Themes Tab.

Changing The Icon Theme On Cinnamon
